Pink Peony 9 is a variable edition fine art flower emulsion lift print adhered to Cotton Paper.  Available in square sizes 8”, 12”, 20” and 28”.  A pearl iridescence glows from the image and changes depending on the angle of your view.

About This Artwork:

Emulsion Lift Prints are an Alternative Printing Process that differs from a photograph print.  Both start out the same as digital images from the computer. Both are printed using the same printer.  However, whereas a photographic print is completed once it is printed on paper, the Emulsion Print begins its life printed on a transparent film and then is hand painted with an Emulsion.  Painting the film actually moves the ink a bit resulting in brush marks, streaks, and various types of imperfections.  The emulsions are mixed with gold and or pearl micas giving the images a luster and  3-dimensionality that you will not see in a photographic print.  The process continues when the film is soaked in water.  While in the water the emulsion, a very thin material,  will separate from the film allowing its removal from the water.  It is then adhered to cotton paper.  The paper and images are hand sized and will have size variations, i.e., will not be a perfect square.  When dry it is ready for shipping, framing and ready to bring extra beauty to your space!  Please note that colors may vary from what appears on your screen.

As a photographer, there are moments when I'm captivated by the beauty of a flower, yet unable to record its name. Such was the case when I stumbled upon a mesmerizing giant 12” pink Itoh semi-double peony with delicate white edges and tips, boasting fluttery giant petals that seemed to dance in the breeze. After capturing its enchanting essence through my lens, I embarked on a journey of artistic expression, processing the photo and transforming it into one-of-a-kind emulsion lift prints. Each print is imbued with a unique touch, as I paint pearl mica mixed into the emulsion, adding a subtle three-dimensional quality to the artwork. The resulting pieces showcase the peony's natural beauty in a new light. Itoh peonies, also known as intersectional peonies, are a hybrid cross between tree peonies (Paeonia suffruticosa) and herbaceous peonies (Paeonia lactiflora). Developed by Toichi Itoh in Japan in the 1940s, these peonies combine the best traits of both parent plants, resulting in a stunning and hardy variety. Itoh peonies typically exhibit the large, showy flowers of tree peonies with the strong stems and vigorous growth habit of herbaceous peonies. They come in a wide range of colors, including shades of pink, yellow, orange, and red, and often feature unique combinations of colors and patterns. Itoh peonies are prized for their long blooming period, often producing flowers for several weeks in late spring to early summer.  

The number of Itoh peony varieties continues to grow as breeders develop new hybrids. As of the latest information available, there are over 100 registered Itoh peony varieties. These varieties come in a wide range of colors, petal forms, and growth habits, offering a diverse selection for gardeners and flower enthusiasts to choose from.
